WAAG. We Are All Greeks!

The Museum of Byzantine Culture and the Hellenic Community of Sicily “Trinakria”, Palermo invite you to our new periodical exhibition WAAG. We Are All Greeks! We are all Greeks! organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.

This exhibition, curated by Francesco Piazza, based on an idea of ​​Vassilis Karabatsas and Francesco Piazza, presents works by Greek and Italian artists, who according to the curator of the exhibition “have done a very important interpretive work updating ideals and content about the Greek Revolution and asking new questions about how they changed after 200 years, but also how many of them are still valid and alive in the consciousness of each of them “. The exhibition develops through a path of seven stages: Flag, Sacrifice, Homeland, Philhellenism, Heroes, Political Power, Freedom. Topics that are described historically with the contribution of the professor of Political History at SSE, Mr. Nikos Tombros, through concise texts, poems or sections of political speeches, but also artistically through the works of 15 leading Italians and Greeks artists. The exhibition includes: Spyros Angelopoulos, Manolis Anastasakos, Andrea Buglisi, Michele Ciacciofera, Giorgio Distefano, Emanuele Giuffrida, Kiki Kolimbari, Filippo La Vaccara, Nikos Moschos, Ignazio Cusimano Schifano, Max Serradzalis, Max Serradzalis Marc Zanghi. In the exhibition the visitor will be able to listen to an original musical composition by Christos Ktistakis entitled “Greece 1821”, inspired by the poem “Hellas” by Percy Bysshe Shelley, by the women’s choir inDONNAtión (Larissa Municipal Conservatory, conducted by Dr. Dimitris Ktistakis, Assistant Professor of the Ionian University and accompanied by a piano by Frosos Ast. Ktistakis).

The exhibition is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs – General Secretariat of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy, the Greek Embassy in Rome, the Tempo Forte, the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens, the “Greece 2021” Committee, the Cultural Heritage and Cultural Heritage Region of Sicily, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, as well as the Federation of Greek Communities and Brotherhoods of Italy.
