14.12.2021
A temporary exhibition, titled “The Pantheon of the heroes of the year 1821 – The events in Macedonia”, is inaugurated in the reception hall (foyer) of the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki on 15 December 2021. The exhibition duration is until 28 February 2022.
The exhibition presents paintings by Colonel retired, special advisor of the War Museum and collector Mr. Vassilios Nikoltsios on the subject of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Macedonia, as well as historical miniatures and small dioramas from the collection of Mr. Athanassios Zivonis.
Through modern paintings, important moments of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Macedonia are highlighted, while the miniatures revive heroic figures.
It is an opportunity for young and adult visitors to get acquainted with the heroes of the Greek Revolution in a three-dimensional depiction with the characteristics of their faces, uniforms and weapons, with all their details.
These figures, despite their small size (height that varies from 28mm to 60mm), highlight the greatness of the heroic and turbulent era at the same time.
