Byzantium through the Centuries
24.06.2016 - 02.10.2016
The Museum of Byzantine Culture participated with eight important exhibits from its collections in the exhibition, titled “Byzantium through the Centuries”, which was hosted in the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg from 24 June to 2 October 2016. Masterpieces of Byzantine art, of high historical and artistic value, were displayed. These artefacts came from 22 public museums and ecclesiastical collections in Greece. The presentation was also enriched with exhibits from the Hermitage Museum. Fragments of mosaics and frescoes, portable wooden icons, manuscripts, sculptures, and jewelry were some of the objects, with which our Museum participated in an exhibition, intended to present the culture of a great empire and its artistic impact, which is even today visible on works of modern art.
