Hyperpyron of Andronicus II Palaeologos
On the obverse, which is convex, the Virgin is depicted praying in the walls of Constantinople. The reverse shows Christ blessing the kneeling emperor, Andronicus II Palaeologos. In the background are the inscriptions “IC XC” (Jesus Christ) and “Andronicus with the blessing of Christ Despot Palaeologos”. It was struck at the Constantinople mint.
