Lead seal of Alexios Komnenodoukas Palaeologos
Lead seal (molyvdoboullo) of Alexios Komnenodoukas Palaeologos, son and future son-in-law of emperor Alexios I Aggelos (1195-1203). On the seal reads the metrical inscription “Αλεξίου σφράγισμα Παλαιολό[γου] Κομνηνοδουκών/[ε]ξ ανάκτων [ο]σφύος του [πρ]ωτοπανσεβ[άστ]ου συν υπερτάτω (Seal of Alexios Palaeologos of the Komnenodoukas family descendant of kings most venerable of the venerable)”. The title of “πρωτοπανσεβάστου” (most venerable of the venarable) was considered one of the superior titles of the imperial family.
