Our (?) Byzantium. 30 + 1 visual approaches to the Museum of Byzantine Culture

23.06.2014 - 30.09.2014

The Museum of Byzantine Culture presents to the public the temporary exhibition “Our (?) Byzantium, 30 + 1 visual approaches to the Museum of Byzantine Culture”. This exhibition is the result of cooperation between the Museum and the professor of the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts (A.U.Th.) Mr. Manolis Yannadakis and his students, many of them are now graduated. The Museum, its collections and its exhibits have functioned as sources of inspiration and creativity for young artists.

Info

During the program, the artists started to know better the exhibits, their themes, their material and their production techniques. Then they created original works, which, directly or indirectly, are related to ideas, techniques, iconographic themes and artefacts of the Museum’s exhibition. The marking of the objects of the permanent exhibition makes easier the “dialogue” between them and the works of the temporary exhibition, which refer to them. On the night of the opening, at 21.00, in the frame of the celebration of the European Music Day, the orchestra “Con Fuoco” of the Municipality of Thermi presented a tribute to the composer Manos Hadjidakis on the occasion of the 20 years’ anniversary since his death. The orchestra performed the “Gioconda Smile” and six songs of the composer. Singer: Andreas Karakotas.
