Association of Friends
The association of Friends of the Museum of Byzantine Culture forms the link between the museum and the general public. Its main aims are to provide the museum with moral and material support, assist its running, help to enrich its collections, and raise public awareness regarding the artefacts related with Byzantine history and art.
HISTORY
The Association of Friends was founded in 1988, six years before the Museum’s official opening. It is a non-profit organisation recognised by the state and a member of the Hellenic Federation of Friends of Museums (EOSFIM), through which it participates to the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM). Its membership currently stands at more than 1500 members.
Ever since the association was founded, the Friends of the Museum have pursued all sorts of cultural activities -including lectures, guided tours, educational trips, publishing, music performances and other cultural activities. Through these the Association of the Friends has supported the Museum enriching the museum collections through the acquisition of new artefacts, purchasing materials and machinery, a pianoforte, covering exceptional expenses, as well as finding sponsors and donors. The Friends finance the publication of the museum’s annual bulletin and an annual desk-diary, each time on a theme taken from the museum’s collections.

It is a mixed, polyphonic choir, numbering 65 members and its basic purpose is the promotion of the music and poetic expression of our country, together with an active beneficial activity.
The choir is conducted by Elisavet Demiroglou and accompanied by a group of musicians. The concerts of the Choir are accordingly framed by visual material presentations or poetry readings, related each time to the theme of the event.
