The Museum of Byzantine Culture presents a two-day acquaintance with ancient Greek music, titled “Gift of the Gods III” at the museum’s premises on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October 2017. This is a series of events that take place for the third consecutive year in Thessaloniki, co-organized by the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the electronic Mass Media laboratory of the Department of Journalism of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Anastassios Artisanship of music instruments, the Seikilo Culture Group and the iWrite publications.
Visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient lyres, designed and manufactured by Anastassios Artisanship in collaboration with the 3d Labs of the International Hellenic University (reverse engineering and 3d modelling) and with the SoundLabs of the Department of Journalism & Mass Media of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (sound testing).
In addition, visitors will be able to observe, touch and play with reconstructions of ancient musical instruments and ancient table games and chat with the people behind this pioneering project.
Along with the exhibition, there will be lectures and concerts by the Seikilo music group in Xanthi and in Thessaloniki. The climax of the weekend will be accompanied by the concert of the world-famous musician of ancient lyre, the British Michael Levy.
