The Museum of Byzantine Culture participates in the new action, titled “Night Stories”, which is organized by the Sector of Educational Programs (Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Sports). The event will take place on Thursday 3 August 2017 at 20.00. A thematic guided tour by an archaeologist of the Museum, titled “Clothing in Byzantium”, will present to visitors exhibits of the permanent exhibition. Clothing and textiles narrate their story and travel us through the past. We learn about differences in clothing in Byzantium, e.g. about the attire of the imperial couple, of the clothes that officials and aristocrats used, and, of course, about the clothing of the lower classes. We discover together the weaving techniques, the cost of buying clothes/textiles, and the professions associated with the above. Before the guided tour, a short video on “Clothing in Byzantium” is shown in the amphitheatre “Melina Mercouri”.
After the guided tour, an award winning film, titled “Return”, which is a production of the Museum, will be shown in the amphitheatre “Melina Mercouri”.
