      The Museum of Byzantine Culture invites you cordially to the lecture of the professor emeritus of Byzantine Archaeology, Mr. Theocharis Pazaras, titled "The architectural sculptures of Mount Athos: Constantinople or Thessaloniki" on Wednesday, 23 January 2019, at 20.00 in the Amphitheatre"Melina Mercouri" of the Museum. Dr. Agathoniki Tsilipakou, Director of the Museum, will preface the event.
 

The lecture will present the architectural sculptural marble decoration of the monasteries and especially of the Katholika of Mount Athos, which consists of columns, capitals, door frames, slabs and icon screens, and will attempt to answer the question of whether this architectural decoration is connected with the artistic creation of Constantinople and Asia Minor or with that of Thessaloniki and the neighboring workshops of Macedonia.
